BlackBerry Bold 9788 Introduced in China, No Much Different with The Previous
This week RIM and China Mobile introduced the BlackBerry Bold 9788 in China.
BlackBerry OS 6, which seems like an odd choice. Why do they use as the OS is almost obsolete for a brand new BlackBerry devices?
Technical details of the BlackBerry Bold 9788:
-5 megapixel camera
-RAM (Memory) is only 256 Megabytes, which is low compared with other new devices
- Screen resolution of 480 × 360 pixels, but fewer than what the new OS have another 7 devices
-GPS
-Bluetooth
-Wi-Fi
The last few years RIM has a difficult time entering the Chinese market. Looking back, RIM has partnered with Old China Mobile and in 2007 you could buy the 8700g BlackBerry models 7290 and in China. After that imitators try their luck. View L900i Blueberry and RedBerrys. We saw a fake BlackBerry Bold 9700 called B9700. At Hong Kong Electronics Fair 2010 Pearl 9100 copies are called B9100 promoted. And there are many others. This device not only appears at random. They arise because the original BlackBerrys are quite expensive when viewed from the perspective of Chinese customers.
How does RIM get a foot into the door in China?
While RIM could sell high multiple BlackBerry OS 7 devices in China, they decided they needed something really cheap. BlackBerry Bold 9788 is inexpensive devices. It’s just the most important thing the BlackBerry needs. Although there are shiny facade of skyscrapers in Shanghai, Shanghai is not China. Shanghai is one city that is rich, but there are many cities in China where people have less to spend. BlackBerry Bold 9788 is at price levels low enough to reach to a large number of customers in China. RIM Bold press release in 9788 reflects this very clearly.
When you think about it, the BlackBerry OS 6 is not an odd choice at all. Only a few applications on the BlackBerry App world today has a Chinese version. The number of applications that are ready for the BlackBerry OS 7 and have been translated into Chinese even lower. RIM wants a solid number of applications for Chinese customers right from the start. Thanks to BB OS 6 they have a solid number of applications available in Chinese.
Clearly, the BlackBerry Bold 9788 is not made to break the record, except for the lowest price. RIM wanted to get attention in China, and want to get attention outside of big cities like Shanghai and Beijing. RIM Bold 9788 build really cheap for China to gain market share.

It is Bell, the biggest Canada operator rumored to launch four BlackBerrys lineup, Torch 9810, Bold 9900, Torch 9860, and Curve 9360.
